Seymour News - Purple Hair

Bible Quizzing

I have to dye my hair purple now. Let me explain.

The Bible Quiz season has officially kicked off! We had our first quiz at Camp Machasay with nine teams! Rick shared from 2 Corinthians 5:7—“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Our new creation status is dependent: If anyone is in Christ. We must be in Christ to unlock a new life. We brought two teams from Fort Morgan: Fishsticks and Breadsticks. My quizzers were excited for the quiz season! Breadsticks had two of my rookies, and they both quizzed out for the first time as varsity quizzers! Their final team placement was 8th! Fishsticks fought three intense quizzes in the afternoon. In the qualifying quiz, there was only 50 points between the first and last place team (20 points are given for each correct question).

Fishsticks stayed in the top site and won the final quiz, placing first! Individually, Alyssa was the 2nd-place rookie, Aryll placed 6th, and Xander was top quizzer with only one error! I was impressed how well the quizzers knew their verses and how competitive the teams were. One of my favorite aspects of the meets is listening to youth quote their verses.

Now for the purple hair. I told my Fishstick team years ago that if we ever won a quiz meet, I would dye my hair purple and they’d get an ice cream party. Next time they win, I may have green hair. We’ll see what they come up with.

The next quiz meet is October 25 at Life Fellowship in Fort Morgan. During lunch, we host Adult Quizzing—the adults quiz while the kids act as coaches and table officials. We are competing over 1 John 1-3. I invite you to come watch a quiz, and to learn some verses from 1 John. It’s a beautiful, convicting book.

Join Our Next Tract Campaign

Although many Christians feel uncomfortable with Halloween, it does present a unique evangelism opportunity. I invite you to participate in sharing the gospel this Halloween by either offering tracts to trick O’ treaters or by going door-to-door and giving tracts to your neighbors. I will provide the tracts. Last year, we gave 2,100 tracts in three towns—Fort Morgan, Brush, and Holyoke. Imagine the impact if we added your hometown too!

To participate, please look through some tracts and pick one you like. Then, fill out the 'Request Tracts' form by October 7, and I will mail you tracts and directions before Halloween.

What Could be Sweeter? What Could be Sweeter? was the Halloween tract theme we passed out at the Brush’s Trick-O-Treat street. The beautiful weather brought out a large crowd.
