Seymour News - Prepare the Way

Prepare the Way

Prepare the Way was the theme of Nationals 2025. Our opening speaker was a former quizzer who shared about verses he was memorizing that convicted him: “I didn’t like that verse, but I had to memorize it and review it.” These verses were a spotlight on areas in his life that he had not surrendered to God. By saying ‘yes’ to these spiritual pin-pricks, he became more like Jesus. “When you come to a verse you don’t like, surrender that area to Jesus.”

Memorizing isn’t just for teens: Adults need God’s word too! Nathan and I organized the adult quizzing at Nationals. We had 32 adults sign up and 42 teens volunteer to help run the adult quizzing tournament. Our teen table officials did a fantastic job, and the adults knew their verses! Everyone had a fun time of fellowship as we quizzed.

This nationals was very competitive—every team deserved to be there. Youth Challenge brought two teams, Witness and Ginōskō. Nathan and I coached Ginōskō, our ministry’s B team. Most of the quizzers had never been to Nationals before, so this was a great learning opportunity! On Saturday, we started the bracket in 45th place and Witness started in 10th. Both teams quizzed well and moved up in the rankings! Final team standings: Witness placed 8th and Ginōskō placed 41st.

Foster Care - New Siblings

Devin and I have accepted another pair of young foster kids into our home. They are sweet with wonderful imaginations. Please pray for Devin and I as we adjust to having two little ones running around. Pray these precious children will heal from past trauma, build relationships, and learn to trust. May they and their parents come to know Jesus and find His healing power.

If you want to follow our foster care journey and see pictures of the little guys, you are invited to join our private GroupMe.

Summer Camps

Between June 23 to July 10th, Camp Machasay will run their four summer camps: Fortress, Rock, Refuge, and Strength. One of our foster kids will be attending a camp. Please pray for the campers that they would grow closer to Jesus, for the adults running camp, and for everyone’s safety as they travel. We are still needing volunteers to operate these camps. From counselors to the trading post, there is a job for you. If you’re interested in helping, or know someone who is, please visit CampMachasay.com.

Looking for Flags & Parade Volunteers

Youth Challenge will have a float in Brush’s annual Fourth of July Parade. We will be using my husband’s military humvee to pull the float. I am looking for American flags to borrow for our humvee and volunteers to help distribute tracts to the spectators the day of the parade. The choke point for parade tract distribution in the past has been the number of people passing them out. We handed out 2,600 last year, but I think we can beat that record with more people. If you’re interested in helping, please contact me.

Join my Prayer Team

Thank you to those who have claimed a day to pray for us! If you haven't yet, would you consider joining my prayer team? I’m creating a monthly calendar so every day is covered in prayer. First, select an open day you’d like to pray for our ministry, like the first Tuesday. Next, fast from something on your prayer day—a meal, social media, coffee—and pray for our ministry.

Praise!

Safe travels to Nationals and health for adults and quizzers.

Abiding I’ve been studying 1 John in preparation of our upcoming Bible Quiz season. John, unlike many of Paul’s letters, orbits or repeats key ideas: Darkness vs light. Love vs hate. Obedience. Fellowship. And abiding. I’ve been studying what abide means: Abide: To stay. Remain. Be present. Continue. Dwell. Endure. Its the word used in the gospels when Jesus stays in a village or when he asks his disciples to remain with him while praying in the garden of Gethsemane. John has many things to...

Bible Quiz Regionals Youth Challenge took three teams to the Midland regionals competition. Most of the quizzers on my team, Veritas, had never attended a post-season competition before. Everyone on Veritas answered, and several quizzed out! They also made memories with the other quizzers. The last night, the three Youth Challenge teams had the camp to themselves and enjoyed playing games together, including flashlight hide-and-seek. Final team standings: Witness placed 5th, Ginosko placed...

As the St. Patrick’s Day 5k race drew near, the forecast looked gloomy. Windy. Cold. Overcast. Maybe even raining. Youth Challenge was a sponsor for the 5k, and we were adding items to the runners’ goodie-bags. It even rained the day before the race. However, there were clear skies the morning of the 5k. There were approximately 75 runners, and each received a St. Patrick’s Day themed gospel tractas well as information about upcoming camps. One runner received our journaling Bible of the New...
