Seymour News - Our First Foster Care Placement

Bible Quiz Regionals

Youth Challenge took three teams to the Midland regionals competition. Most of the quizzers on my team, Veritas, had never attended a post-season competition before. Everyone on Veritas answered, and several quizzed out! They also made memories with the other quizzers. The last night, the three Youth Challenge teams had the camp to themselves and enjoyed playing games together, including flashlight hide-and-seek. Final team standings: Witness placed 5th, Ginosko placed 21st, and Veritas placed 24th.

Our First Foster Care Placement

I was unable to attend regionals because Devin and I accepted our first foster care placement that weekend. I was minutes from loading onto the regional bus when we got the call: a pair of brothers needed a home. It was amazing to see God’s timing and provision. If we’d gotten the placement call even ten minutes later, I would have been on the road to regionals. After we accepted the placement, my mom was still in town and took me home.Devin didn’t have work that day. I had talked to the placing county the week before, who told me they didn’t utilize foster homes often. From owning the right carseat to backpacks to friends providing meals, we had everything we needed. God’s grace is sufficient. We kept the boys for a long weekend: playing games, visiting my mom’s animals, and enjoying an evening of s’mores. The boys have left our care now—please continue to pray for both kids and for their family. Special thanks to Ginger, Kyle, Amanda, and Nathan for covering for me at regionals! If you’d like as-it-happens foster care updates and pictures, you are welcome to join our private GroupMe.

Needing Parade Help

Youth Challenge will have a float in Brush’s annual Fourth of July Parade. This is one of our largest tract distribution events. I am looking for American flags to borrow for our float and volunteers to help distribute tracts to the spectators the day of the parade. If you’re interested in helping with either, please contact me.

Join My Prayer Team

Thank you to those who have claimed a day to pray for us! If you haven't yet, would you consider joining my prayer team? I’m creating a monthly calendar so every day is covered in prayer. First, select an open day you’d like to pray for our ministry, like the first Tuesday. Next, fast from something on your prayer day—a meal, social media, coffee—and pray for our ministry.

Abiding I’ve been studying 1 John in preparation of our upcoming Bible Quiz season. John, unlike many of Paul’s letters, orbits or repeats key ideas: Darkness vs light. Love vs hate. Obedience. Fellowship. And abiding. I’ve been studying what abide means: Abide: To stay. Remain. Be present. Continue. Dwell. Endure. Its the word used in the gospels when Jesus stays in a village or when he asks his disciples to remain with him while praying in the garden of Gethsemane. John has many things to...

Prepare the Way Prepare the Way was the theme of Nationals 2025. Our opening speaker was a former quizzer who shared about verses he was memorizing that convicted him: “I didn’t like that verse, but I had to memorize it and review it.” These verses were a spotlight on areas in his life that he had not surrendered to God. By saying ‘yes’ to these spiritual pin-pricks, he became more like Jesus. “When you come to a verse you don’t like, surrender that area to Jesus.” Memorizing isn’t just for...

As the St. Patrick’s Day 5k race drew near, the forecast looked gloomy. Windy. Cold. Overcast. Maybe even raining. Youth Challenge was a sponsor for the 5k, and we were adding items to the runners’ goodie-bags. It even rained the day before the race. However, there were clear skies the morning of the 5k. There were approximately 75 runners, and each received a St. Patrick’s Day themed gospel tractas well as information about upcoming camps. One runner received our journaling Bible of the New...
